Horror Whorez Gothic Inspirations Blog Train

Lon Chaney Jr.

Back when I was a kid, we didn't have cable TV. It hadn't been invented yet. We got six TV stations - NBC, ABC and CBS (Fox hadn't been invented either), Channel 2, which was the Public Broadcasting Station, and two local stations, Channel 43 and 61. 43 was the easier of the two to get. It played a lot of old Japanese cartoons. 61 you kind of had to mess around with the antena, but it was worth it, because every Saturday at 2:00 PM they aired the weekly Creature Feature.

This included all the old horror movies, including some of the old silent classics like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Metropolis. And yes, we got the old Lon Chaney Jr files too like The Ghost of Frankenstein, Son of Dracula, House of the Black Death (which wasn't even that old back then) and of course, The Wolf Man from 1941.

So, while I'm fond of Jason and Freddie and the rest of todays horror icons, none of them quite match up to the man of a thousand faces.

Don't worry, you'll find lots of Jason and Freddie on this train too. But I hope some of you will enjoy my portion of the train, which hails back to different era of horror.
